Why is it that apparently everyone in my circle of acquaintances working in or sympathizing with "alternative medicine" turns out to be a tin hat disseminating chemtrail-, "andochrome"- and other conspiracies?

Over the weekend I got strong backpain again and have been to my chiropractic for in-deepth massage and acupuncture (which works fine for me): While he was working my back he started talking about coronavirus being a fake, no pandemic there (nothing to see), all smokescreen to defelct from the "real" issue, viz., the deep state network of underground farms where children are being tortured to pour "androchrome" rich blood from their bodies. (As elixir of youth for the elites, of course. Remember "pizza gate"? Same lunacy.) All the main public construction sites in my country which are way behind schedule and way above cost limit? All sites where "they" built storeys "into the depth" to house the cages to keep the children...

Seriously, I never realized until now how ubiquitous these morons in society became. And seemingly all from the "alternative" life-style part of society—now apparently joining or having joined hands with the conspiracy theorists of those other segments.

This is another disastrous impact from the counterculture and the various alternative movements of the early 1970s to the mid 1990s:

Not just that this generation dreamt of dropping out and thus deprived the trade union movement of at least one generation of new members. (By which resistance against neoliberal market openings was bated.) But furthermore, in their lack of education and insistence on "privileged access to reality" via their "sensitivity" and their "sight of higher realities" they not only shoot themselves right away into cultish (often anti-Semitic) states of mind but create a "culture" of explicit rightwing irrationality impervious to reasoning. Which would all be fine if they would just stick to their private allotments. But they insist on being taken seriously.

What a fricking nightmare.

I was watching a YT video by Winston Sterzel on whether Chinese people in fact eat dogs @youtube.com/watch?v=3I7oe3MKNF0 when two of his remarks caught my attention:

• Dog meat is eaten by the lower classes and more traditional people. It is a winter food because people think that dog meat is particularly capable of warming one's chi. (3:13)
• Another aspect in the consumption of dog meat is that many Chinese people seem to think that if the dog meat is richer in adrenaline it's better for the human body, so dogs are cruely brought to death to have the adrenaline in the meat. (9:34)

Interestingly, the "adrenochrome" idea I mentioned recently in a covid-19 conspiracy story I happened to endure by my chiropractic ( @pleroma.site/notice/9wqnneaGqncAeOWpwe I mistakenly labelled it "androchrome") is not that much different. In the time of the #covid19 pandemic, the conspiracy story claims that the "elites" created the pandemic to deflect from the fact that in vast underground camps children are held in cages, sexually abused and tortured, their blood taken with the adrenochrome (an oxidation of adrenaline) to serve as a rejuvenating elixiir for the elites. (An account of this "theory" from 2019 without the covid-19 relation but the child abuse can be read here: @shadolsonshow.com/2019/07/20/child-adrenochrome-globalist-cabals-immortality-drug-of-choice/ ) In other versions, covid-19 has been transmitted by tainted adrenochrome batches (cf. @thespinoff.co.nz/society/17-03-2020/emily-writes-down-the-rabbit-hole-with-the-covid-19-conspiracy-theorists/ )

What may have lended such "theories" some "plausibility" are reports that blood taken from young mice and injected into older mice has some "rejuvenating" effects on the latter. (cf. @bbc.com/news/health-27282832 ) But my main bafflement comes from the parallels in the beliefs of some Chinese dog meat consumers, some conspiracy advocates fantasizing about European and U.S. American ardenochrome production and consumption (notwhithstanding that ardenochrome can be produced in the lab and is available on the market @sigmaaldrich.com/catalog/product/sigma/a5752?lang=en®ion=US ) and the old anti-Semitic topos from the Middle Ages that the Jews would ritually sacrifice Christian children at Passover to obtain their blood for the unleavened bread (the blood libel, cf. @britannica.com/topic/blood-libel )

The point for me is not how in difficult times similar accusations and beliefs may come to the surface. It's rather why there is this fascination with blood and the "rejuvenating" "power" of it, and why this power is ascribed to the blood of "inferiors", be it children or animals. Which points to another parallel, viz., as could be seen in the Climate Change protests of 2019, the old folks expect the younger generation to be responsible for hope. And as the old exploit the young with regard to hope, they ignore how theiy themselves may come up with a different, "older" kind of hope. One that arises exactly from defeat, and one that could sustain the young. (cf. my @pleroma.site/notice/9mZ8MuuC1PKMP74A8u ).

These are very atavistic impulses, and they show how thin the layer is between "enlightenment" and "archaic thinking". Or perhaps rather: How in times of pressure some follow their urges to rationality, others to irrationality, and there is isn't much to be said in the favour of one over the other. Besides morals, perhaps.
